The AICPA announced on Monday that their 2017-18 Legacy Scholarship application period for undergraduate and graduate accounting students is now open on ThisWayToCPA.com.

This year's program will provide over 100 scholarships totaling more than $630,000 to top accounting students across the country.

“The AICPA has a long history of providing financial support for talented accounting students as they pursue their education,” stated Joanne Fiore, AICPA vice president, professional media, Academic and Student Engagement. “In addition to financial support, the Legacy Scholars Program pairs students with a coach who works with them to complete a project promoting the accounting profession. These projects help instill the spirit of volunteerism the accounting profession is known for in these students at a young age.”

Established in 2011, the Legacy Scholars program awards recipients with a one-year scholarship as well as service work to help them develop their soft skills. Since its inception, the Legacy Scholars Program has awarded more than $2 million.

Students accepted into the AICPA Legacy Scholars Program receive one of four scholarship awards: the AICPA / Accountemps Student Scholarship; AICPA Foundation Two-year Transfer Scholarship; AICPA John L. Carey Scholarship; or the AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students.

“The AICPA Legacy Scholars program has opened the door to many opportunities for me," said Jared Beltran, an AICPA Legacy Scholar and Master of Accounting student at The University of Utah, per a statement. "Through the program, I connected with leaders in my community who have provided inspiration and encouragement on my path towards becoming a CPA. Applying for this scholarship was one of the best decisions I have made in my young career and I encourage all eligible students to consider applying.”

The application deadline is April 1, 2017. To apply online or for more information, head to ThisWayToCPA.com. (The AICPA also offers the National Scholarship Search to help students search scholarships by type and state availability.)
