The Georgia Society of CPAs brought over 100 of its members to meet with lawmakers at the state capitol in Atlanta.

The event, on January 25, was the GSPA’s sixth annual CPA Day, giving CPAs an opportunity to advocate for the accounting profession with state lawmakers.

“CPA Day at the Gold Dome provides our members with the opportunity to make a real connection with their elected officials,” said GSCPA CEO Boyd Search in a statement. “CPAs are uniquely qualified to provide Georgia’s legislators with insight into the issues facing the accounting profession, the business community and the general public.”

One of the state lawmakers, Sen. Michael Williams, introduced a Senate resolution to recognize CPA Day and the GSCPA for its valuable contributions on behalf of Georgia.

“It is important that CPAs and CPA Day at the Gold Dome are recognized,” Williams said in a statement. “CPAs serve as an invaluable resource to the Georgia General Assembly.”

He and other members of the Georgia General Assembly gave the CPAs updates on pending legislation and initiatives. Georgia State University accounting professor Lucia N. Smeal also discussed how the Trump administration’s tax reform plans could have an impact on CPAs.
